Next week, KuuB will open it's second in a series of three expositions concerning The City. An important theme, because the world we live in has never before been urbanizing as thoroughly and highly paced as it does now. Ever since 2008, more than half of the world's population lives in an urban society. Does the city become an environment in which all these people are offered chances to expand themselves and evolve as individuals, or do these agglomerations lead to alienation and isolation? And how do artists respond to these developments? What does the concept 'urban' mean in relation to contemporary art? Does the local environment influence the artist's works or do we speak of globalization of art due to the big uniform cities and likewise an unification of the imagery?
These questions were Koos van Duinen's starting point for composing the exposition De Stad/Urban Images. He assembled the six following visual artists for this: Michiel van Bakel, Aldo van den Broek, Robbie Cornelissen, Ienke Kastelein, Uwe Poth en Rik Smits.
The exposition will be open from friday April 10th, 1 pm. The opening will be on saturday April 11th, 5 pm with a performance of tap dancer Marije Nie, who will translate the poetry of dancing while walking through a city in 'The Sound of Urban Steps'. Feel invited to come watch and listen on saturday!
