ABOUT THE FAIR
Galerie Ron Mandos is excited to be part of The Armory Show Online 2021. This year’s online art fair presentation includes a selection of works by Erwin Olaf, Koen van den Broek, Jacco Olivier, Hans Op de Beeck, and Isaac Julien.
For his latest series Im Wald (“In the Forest”), Erwin Olaf was drawn to the great outdoors to take pictures. His large landscape photographs show man’s ignorance towards nature and explore topics that are currently explosive, such as climate change and environmental protection.
Koen van den Broek developed his painting from the observation of nature, transforming this knowledge then into a distinctive visual language. Paying particular attention to the landscape, he focused closely on aspects in the cultivated or industrialized environment.
The poetic animations by Jacco Olivier present life as a hike into the unknown and nature as a symbol for its transience. They enact a journey through a world in constant flux.
Hans Op de Beeck shows the viewer non-existent, but identifiable places, moments and characters that appear to have been taken from contemporary everyday life, aiming thereby to capture in his images the tragicomic absurdity of our postmodern existence.
Isaac Julien‘s Lessons of the Hour is a poetic meditation on the life and times of Frederick Douglass. The film proposes a contemplative journey into Douglass’ zeitgeist and its relationship to contemporaneity.
