Girma Berta (ET, 1990) describes the motivation behind his work as a wish to capture ‘the beautiful, the ugly and all that is in between’. His images delve into the soul of Ethiopian urban life, offering his remarkable interpretation. As an autodidact he fuses street photography with conceptual art. Berta won the 2016 Getty Images Instagram Award and the 2017 Prize for Contemporary African Photography (CAP Prize). His work has recently been exhibited at the Afrika Museum, Berg en Dal (NL, 2018); La Gacilly Photo Festival (FR, 2017); and Red Hook Labs, NYC (USA, 2017), among others.
